Week 3 of Mission CGPSC 2027 · Kings & Cabinets — The Union executive and Parliament, alongside the Kalachuris of Ratanpur and the Maratha years. See the full plan.
Union Executive
Which one of the following can the President of India do under Article 72 but the Governor of a State cannot do under Article 161?
Article 72 lets the President pardon a death sentence and deal with Court Martial sentences. Under Article 161 the Governor can suspend, remit or commute a death sentence but cannot pardon it, and has no power over Court Martial sentences.
Maratha Rule in Chhattisgarh
Consider the following statements about Maratha rule in Chhattisgarh:
- The Suba system was introduced after the death of Bimbaji Bhonsle.
- Under the Suba system, subedars were appointed on a contract basis, undertaking to deliver revenue to Nagpur.
- Mahipat Rao Dinkar was the last subedar of Chhattisgarh.
Which of the statements given above is/are correct?
The Suba system began after Bimbaji’s death in 1787, when Vyankoji Bhonsle ruled Chhattisgarh from Nagpur through subedars appointed on a contract (revenue-farming) basis. Statement 3 is wrong: Mahipat Rao Dinkar (1787–1790) was the first subedar; the last was Yadav Rao Diwakar (1817–1818).
Basic Numeracy
The average of five numbers is 24. When one number is removed, the average of the remaining four numbers is 22. What is the number removed?
Sum of five numbers = \( 5 \times 24 = 120 \); sum of the remaining four = \( 4 \times 22 = 88 \). Removed number = \( 120 - 88 = 32 \).
