Week 3 of Mission CGPSC 2027 · Kings & Cabinets — The Union executive and Parliament, alongside the Kalachuris of Ratanpur and the Maratha years. See the full plan.
Parliament
A cut motion that seeks to reduce a demand for grant to ₹1, expressing disapproval of the policy underlying the demand, is called a:
A policy cut reduces the demand to ₹1 to signal disapproval of the policy. An economy cut reduces it by a specified amount to suggest savings, and a token cut reduces it by ₹100 to air a specific grievance. The guillotine is the device of putting all remaining demands to vote together on the last allotted day.
Kalachuris of Ratanpur and Raipur
Consider the following statements about the Kalachuris of Chhattisgarh:
- Kalingaraja ruled from Tummana (Tuman).
- Ratnadeva I founded Ratnapura (Ratanpur).
- The Raipur branch was the senior branch of the dynasty.
Which of the statements given above is/are correct?
Kalingaraja established the branch around 1000 CE with his capital at Tummana, and his grandson Ratnadeva I founded Ratanpur. Statement 3 is wrong: the Raipur branch is the Lahuri (junior) shakha; Ratanpur was the senior line.
Basic Numeracy
A shopkeeper marks an article 25% above its cost price and then allows a discount of 10% on the marked price. What is his profit percentage?
Let CP = 100. Marked price = 125; after a 10% discount, SP = \( 125 \times 0.9 = 112.5 \). Profit = 12.5, i.e. 12.5%. The trap answer 15% comes from simply subtracting 10 from 25, which ignores that the discount is taken on the larger marked price.
