State Executive and Legislature
Which of the following states are named in the proviso to Article 164(1) as requiring a Minister in charge of tribal welfare?
The 94th Amendment (2006) removed Bihar from the proviso and added Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. The list now reads Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha. Option B is the pre-2006 list, a common distractor.
1857 and the Freedom Movement in Chhattisgarh
Veer Narayan Singh, regarded as Chhattisgarh’s first martyr of the Revolt of 1857, was the zamindar of:
Veer Narayan Singh of Sonakhan distributed hoarded grain to famine-hit people, was arrested, escaped and fought the British; he was hanged at Raipur on 10 December 1857. Sambalpur is linked with Surendra Sai of Odisha, a different 1857-era rebel.
Reading Comprehension
Read the passage and answer the question.
Village councils in many forested areas have begun to write down traditional knowledge about medicinal plants. The elders who once passed this knowledge on orally are fewer every year, and many young people now migrate to towns for work. Written records, the councils admit, cannot replace learning in the forest itself, but they can at least stop the knowledge from disappearing altogether.
Which of the following best states the purpose of the councils’ effort, as described in the passage?
The passage says records ‘cannot replace learning in the forest’ but can ‘stop the knowledge from disappearing’ — exactly the third option. ‘Replace oral tradition entirely’ contradicts the councils’ own admission, migration is mentioned only as a cause of the problem, and selling plants is not mentioned at all.
